Swiss Watch & Jewellery Show, Baselworld 2016

The 44th edition of world's biggest Watch & Jewellery Show, Baselworld 2016, is being held in the Swiss city of Basel from 17-24 March 2016. Baselworld is considered the most important marketplace and trendsetting show for the world's watch and jewellery industry. The show this year boasts of around 1,500 exhibitors, including leading watch brands like Rolex, Patek Philippe, Breguet and Omega, alongside high-end jewellers like Graff and Harry Winston, and is expected to draw some 150,000 visitors. The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India (GJEPC India), the apex body under Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, for promotion of exports of gems and jewellery from India, has organized Indian joint participation for the 18th consecutive year at Baselworld 2016, with 14 of its member exporters along with Council’s promotional booth to promote India Pavilion & other Council’s activities. In addition, there were several Indian exhibitors who are participating on their own initiative at the Show and have made their presence felt. India, the largest manufacturer of cut & polished diamonds, gemstones, including Tanzanite and Emeralds amongst others, is also the fastest jewellery exporter in the world. Today, India is undeniably the centre of gem & jewellery trade with total exports worth US$ 39.18 billion recorded for the period Jan-Dec 2014. Cut & Polished diamond exports accounted for US$ 2.02 billion; Gold Jewellery at US$5.45 billion, whereas colored gemstones recorded exports worth US$ 8.31 million.
