Application for Fresh Passport/Reissue

To apply for Passport Services at the Embassy of India, Bern, it is mandatory to fill the application online.

  • The Online application form is available at https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in/
  • All Passports will be issued only after verifying the credentials of the applicants.
  • Consular surcharge of CHF 2 is levied on all consular services.
  • The size of the photograph is 2” x 2”.
  • Payment is accepted preferably through Bank transfer. Cash/Debit/Credit cards are not accepted.  Bank details are given at the end of page.
  • PAYMENT MADE AT THE CASH DESK OF THE POST OFFICE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED as the same involves agency charges.
  • Applicants are requested to verify the Consular Services Fee, Consular Surcharge and bank account details before making bank transfer or payment. Embassy shall not be responsible for any erroneous deposit or payment to its account. It is non-refundable.
  • Processing of a completed passport application may take up to seven weeks. Please refrain from making enquiries during this period.

Note: New passport can also be issued more than one year before the expiry of the current passport.

Processing Time: Please be informed that Tatkal facility is not available at this Embassy. Normally it takes 5 to 7 weeks from the date of receipt in the Embassy.

Important details for Passport Procedure:

Web portal for passport application: It is mandatory to fill the passport application form online at the following link:

  • Print the passport application form filled online and sign on both the designated places(on first page under the photograph and the last page of application form).
  • All signatures in the application form should be signed with either blue or black ballpoint pen only.
  • Those who cannot affix their signature , e.g. infants and minors,  should put their thumb impression instead of signature below the photograph (male applicants should use left thumb impression and female applicants should use right thumb impression). The signature of the applicant should exactly fit in the prescribed signature box provided on the first page.
  • Unsigned applications will be rejected.
  • Print-out of the filled application form along with other supporting documents are to be submitted by Post.
  • Application Fee (click here for fee details) should be deposited through bank transfer only.
  • Payment may be made in advance (as it takes 2 to 3 days to reflect in our bank account) to the Embassy’s Bank Account and attach copies of both the transaction slips with the application as proof for payment.

  • Passport application can be submitted one year before the date of expiry of the existing passport. For e.g. if the passport is expiring on 15.02.2022 the application can be submitted any time after 15.02.2021.

Indian address is mandatory while filling the application form for Police Verification Purpose. Proof of that Indian address is mandatory. Address in the name of applicant's parents or spouse is also accepted.

1. Re-issue of passport on completion of validity of current passport/exhaustion of pages:

2. Passport for children below 18 years of age:

Note:

  • The passport will be valid for five years or till the minor attains the age of 18 years, whichever is earlier.
  • However, minors in the age group of 15 to 18 years are eligible to apply for 10 year - validity passport with additional fees.

3. Fresh passport to a newborn child:

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • For a child born in Switzerland to be registered as an Indian citizen, the application must be made within one year of the child's birth, in the prescribed form.
  • Birth registration is mandatory. This service is a part of the Fresh passport application for a new born child.
  • At least one of the child's parents must be an Indian citizen at the time of applying.

Following are the guidelines for applying fresh passport for a new born child:

(c) Instead of signature, thumb impression of the child is required in signature box on the first page and last page of the application form below the photograph (left thumb impression in case of male child and right thumb impression in case of female child)
(d) Copy of Birth Certificate issued by the Swiss Civil Authority
(e) 2 recent photographs (one pasted on the designated place in the application form and one extra should be given without stapling)-

4. Re-issue of passport for splitting name (writing name and surname in different columns in the passport):

5. Re-issue of passport for inclusion of spouse name in the passport:

6. Re-issue of passport in lieu of lost or damaged passport

7. Re-issue of passport due to change in name (For reasons other than marriage or divorce)

8. Re-issue of passport due to change of name after marriage or remarriage

(g) For going back to maiden name because of death of spouse/divorce, death certificate/divorce decree needed.
