Thank you every one for joining the flag hoisting ceremony here at India House. I wish to congratulate you all on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day of India.

I have arrived in the country only more than a week ago and I am glad to be meeting the Indian Diaspora and Friends of India, even if virtually, today.

2020 has been a difficult year for the entire humanity due to the new coronavirus pandemic. The continued threat of the pandemic has restricted several businesses and activities that we were doing as usual.   As we all need to feel safe and ensure well-being of people around us, we preferred to celebrate this Independence Day with limited physical participation.  The Independence Day function at the Red Fort this morning was also held with extra precautions pertaining to health.

Let me greet and congratulate all members of Indian Diaspora and friends of India in Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Holy See, who have joined us online in today’s celebrations.  I wish them a Happy Independence Day.

Dear Friends,

Independence Day reminds us of all the sacrifices that our freedom fighters made for our country and for our future.   If we look back, we realize that while following the democratic principles, while ensuring social, economic and political justice, while enjoying freedom of thought and expression, freedom of faith and worship, while promoting peace and universal brotherhood, we have made remarkable progress in every field including energy, space, science, agriculture, bio-technology and information technology.

Today, we have emerged as the fastest-growing large economy in the world, with a healthy growth rate.  We have also become a global hub for manufacturing and innovation.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are on the path of self-reliance in the post-pandemic period.  This is the opportune time for us to move forward with our vast pool of skilled manpower and advanced technological capabilities.

I am happy to take over my responsibilities to further strengthen the bonds of our warm and friendly relations with Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Holy See.  In the last few years, there have been several high level engagements with India’s longstanding dynamic partner Switzerland including State Visit of Hon’ble President of India last September.  Our relations with the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Holy See are also progressing well.  I express my firm commitment to take forward our bilateral relations in this beautiful part of the world.

I am happy to find that there is strong presence of Indian Diaspora here which  is actively engaged in promoting Indian interest and cultural values.  All Diaspora Associations celebrate Indian National Days and Festivals with enthusiasm.  I assure all Indian Citizens and friends of India my full cooperation and I invite them all to join hands in the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam’.

I once again thank all of you for joining and wish you good health, happiness and prosperity.

Jai Hind!!!
