The 125th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who wrote India’s Constitution, was commemorated at the refurbished library-cum-conference room of the Chancery - on 14th April 2016. We were glad to welcome prominent members of the Indian community, officials and their family members. Ambassador addressed the audience on the life and achievements of Babasaheb, which were diverse and spanned many areas. His life and struggles give inspiration to countless millions. Dr. Ambedkar prevailed over all kinds of adversity to achieve great heights. He resisted attempts by the colonial rulers to divide the movement for Independence. He was a great scholar and the author of India’s Constitution, which is unique. The fact that Indian democracy continues to thrive owes a lot to his vision and wisdom. The Preamble of the Constitution was recited by all and some of his important quotes were also read out by Shri P. Mukherjee, Second Secretary (Culture & Inf.), Indian Embassy A documentary on Dr. Ambedkar (directed by eminent filmmaker Dr. Jabbar Patel) was screened. People can read about his extraordinary life, his scholarly achievements, his struggle against prejudice, and the social reform movements he led on the web. We were glad for this occasion.
